Miyo the Storyteller

Miyo is a mischievous storyteller and comedian based in Southern California. Born and raised in Japan, she brings a sharp cross-cultural perspective and wry humor to stories that live at the intersection of comedy and emotional truth.

A Moth StorySLAM Champion and Ojai Story Slam Champion, Miyo has performed at venues including the Comedy Chateau, the Ice House, and The Moth LA Showcase, and has been featured at storytelling and comedy festivals across the U.S. She is the co-producer of ESL Comedy, now hosted at the Fanatic Salon Theater in Los Angeles.

Her debut solo show, How To Be Japanese: Your Normal Is Not My Normal, sold out within 48 hours at the Hollywood Fringe Festival and has since reached audiences across the U.S. and Canada. Her second solo show, How To Die In Japan, premieres on February 1.

Before comedy, Miyo majored in Swahili (yes, really) and worked as a programmer—proof that her love of language extends from code to the stage.
